MUST LISTEN 100

Every week, we’ll be bringing you Must Listen: a series that's a compilation of rising artists along with songs that must be added to your everyday playlist. This week’s playlist consists of emerging acts like Kuma Overdose, girl_irl, and Hablot Brown.

Kuma Overdose

London-based Asian American artist and producer Kuma Overdose shares his new single “HIGH BG” along with accompanying visuals. This single is the title track from his forthcoming EP due in May. This is the artists’ most experimental and stylistically evolved track to date and we’re excited to see what's to come.

girl_irl

DMY-signed left-pop artist girl_irl is the latest act to pay attention to in the hyper-pop, glitch community of electronica. The Atlanta-bred, Brooklyn-based DJ and producer has dropped a new deconstructed industrial banger titled “float” across all streaming services. To coincide with the track’s boxing theme, the new single is accompanied by a video game visualizer where girl_irl throws jabs in a boxing ring against the backdrop of the song’s sultry rap vocals.

MIXIE

Multi-disciplined artist MIXIE returns with her latest track “Boomerang.” The track is a romp of low-key modern pop with a little sway in its groove. The laughing that kicks off the track tells you MIXIE is having too much fun making songs you immediately put on repeat. The sleek production is only enhanced by her playful, yet blunt lyrics.

smiling LIS

Immerse yourself in the lush harmonies and Dilla-esque drunken beats of “RISING,” an energizing renovation of the inner soul from smiling LIS. Buzzing with fresh and vibrant energy, LIS invites the listener to turn a page for a new chapter through her expressive vocal passes and the textural echoes of dreamy synths.

Chris Buxton

Charlotte native Chris Buxton returns with his 2-track EP, GOOD THINGS DON'T LAST. The project is sonically nostalgic and carries a wide range of rock melodies with heavy touches of pop. Buxton shines with his vulnerability and his ability to craft infectious choruses that will make you reminisce about your adolescent years. It is raw and direct, and Buxton’s brevity and intentions of grandeur are on full display.

Triple One

“GUNSHOW” is the adrenaline-fuelled opener to Triple One’s explosive new project, A Dangerous Method Vol. 1. Co-produced with Grammy Nominated producer 18YOMAN, this aggressive nocturnal banger will have you relinquishing all control and submitting to the libertine within. A tempestuous mash-up of trap and drum n bass, Triple One set the tone for a hard-hitting project that breaks all the rules and re-establishes why they are one of the most forward-thinking outfits in rap.

NNADI

Singer-songwriter NNADI returns with his latest single, “Tell You.” The track comes from a place about finding love even when you’re not ready. Combining influences from lo-fi, alternative, and R&B, NNADI tries to let go of all his feelings through his lyrics to create this intimate and honest soundscape.

Hablot Brown

Creating a hauntingly introspective song led by vocals and dreamy, almost atmospheric features, “The Act” is one of the band’s most personal releases to date. It follows an ebb and flow sort of rhythm–  isolating the vocals at times to help narrate the story and then allowing them to come together and create a soundscape that is impossible to detach from until the very last note.
