MUST LISTEN 103

Every week, we’ll be bringing you Must Listen: a series that's a compilation of rising artists along with songs that must be added to your everyday playlist. This week’s playlist consists of emerging acts like Hamond, Marie Noreger, and 504icygrl.

Houston native, producer, and singer, Hamond, shares his ambient new single “Badget.” The track’s expertly spacious production cycles through crackling guitars, with touches of a flamenco flair, as synths susurrate and Hamond’s agile vocal’s sugary soft falsetto sings of fading love and knowing it left a mark on both involved.

Bringing in a new sensuous single, Norwegian songbird Marie Noreger unveils her mesmerizing track “THE VIEW.” The presents itself as a 70’s inspired retro offering. Fusing tasteful contemporary R&B beats with electronic music, the seductive bassline provides a warming bed for Marie’s alluring vocals.

Versatile producer Inner State 81 teams up with musical chameleon plainfacedgirl on their animated and bouncy track “FREAK!”  Delivering with a killer flow paired with witty lyricism creates a playful summer club banger.

New Orleans rapper, 504icygrl, delivers on her track “Glitter Goon.” The icy rapper flaunts her signature flow paired with a rage/mosh pit-driven production while still maintaining the bouncy 808s that attribute to 505icygrl’s sound. This track demonstrates her versatility and range off of her latest EP Princess Diaries.

Returning with more heat, Jamaican-born singer and songwriter Jada Kingdom serves up a new single and visualizer entitled “Dickmatized.” The track grinds between sexy island-inspired production and airy R&B. Meanwhile, she seduces with a hypnotic flow and raunchy refrain. In the accompanying visualizer, she evokes goddess vibes, singing to the camera.

Built on live guitar melodies, producer Stam & co-producer Grayskies emerge with a surf rock-inspired pop-rap record on his latest single “CONSUMED.” With an emphasis on Kevin’s vocal ability, we find him somewhat reminiscent of his 2018 releases, now doused in maturity & better directed with modern production.

South London native, Kate Stewart, returns with her newest track “Numb.” A light breezy vibe wrapped in heavy lyrics about when your heart is stuck dead in the middle of love. There’s a bittersweet juxtaposition in what the song actually talks about and the melody and notes it's perfectly paired with.

Two of the UK’s most unorthodox vocalists Rasharn Powell and Ojerime share a scenic video for their new single, ‘Play 2’. Co-directed by Preston Teitjen and Rasharn himself, the black and white video sees the pair participate in a sensual back and forth within the rocky Los Angeles desert landscape. Playfully using movement and shadows to enhance the intimacy felt through the lyrics, the seductive vocals run through the song creating a futuristic R&B sound.
